When you become a mom, you realize that the world of dealing with vast amounts of laundry becomes a norm. Tiny humans bring piles of laundry.
Who knew that a baby could poop and puke that much?! I remember that on just one day, I changed outfits on my lastborn Kirav like 6 times because he either messed it with poop or spoilt milk.
If you are doing cloth diapering, you most probably will end up spending more time in the laundry room but it’s so worth it in the end.
My biggest concern has been how do I get the best results, save water, electricity and time when it comes to laundry? I know that I am asking for a lot… but it can be done!
Firstly, it is important that you invest in a good washing machine because trust me, hand washing can feel like you’re being punished for spending too much time with your husband.

10 Baby Laundry Tricks and Tips for New Moms:
1. Invest in a good baby laundry detergent because harmful chemical residues can easily be absorbed by your baby’s skin which can cause an outbreak. My sons have eczema, so I learned about this the hard way.
2. Make sure that you wash baby’s new clothes before wearing.
3. Skip the fabric softener if your little one has sensitive skin. I know, you want your baby’s clothes to feel soft and smell amazing but sometimes it can work against your baby’s skin.
4. Mesh laundry bags will become your best friend for socks, bibs, hats, and other tiny items because sometimes things magically disappear from washers especially tiny ones.
Bonus: Use Tennis Balls as Dryer Balls.
5. A retractable clothesline is a must-have when you have a baby in the house. It really helps on those rainy days when you need to dry clothing inside or if you have less space at home.
6. Make sure you Velcro bibs together before putting in them in the wash so they don’t mess up other clothes.
7. Pre-treat the blowouts – Keep a small bottle of baby powder in the diaper bag for pre-treating stains on-the-go.
8. Call vinegar your new best friend – helps with urine odours and helps keep baby’s clothes soft.
9. Use old bath water to soak stained clothes until laundry day.
10. Consider pre-sorting laundry bins – (light, dark and mix) to help sort your laundry loads for the week.
Please note: Currently, in South Africa, we are facing water shortages and drought in certain parts of the country, especially in Cape Town so I wouldn’t advise moms there to be machine washing right now. In Johannesburg, we are on stage 1 which still allows us to machine wash but we should try and minimize the use of dishwashers and washing machines if possible. Copper scrap furnace technology Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as promising materials for the selective conversion of CO2 to value-added chemicals, particularly because of their high surface area, tunable pore sizes, and chemical functionality. In recent years, researchers have focused their attention on developing MOFs with cooperative copper centres, which can exhibit high activity and selectivity towards the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to ethanol. In a recent study, a team of researchers reported the successful synthesis of a MOF with cooperative copper centres for the selective conversion of CO2 to ethanol. The MOF, named MOF-520, was designed with ligands that provided multiple anchoring sites for copper ions, which allowed for the formation of highly reactive copper centres within the MOF structure. The researchers found that the cooperative copper centres in MOF-520 were able to selectively reduce CO2 to ethanol with high efficiency. They attributed this high selectivity to the presence of multiple copper centres within the MOF, which promoted the formation of ethanol through a stepwise reaction pathway. The researchers also investigated the effect of different reaction conditions on the activity and selectivity of MOF-520. They found that higher CO2 pressure and a basic electrolyte solution were beneficial for improving the efficiency of the CO2 reduction reaction and enhancing the stability of the cooperative copper centres within the MOF structure. This study provides valuable insights into the design and synthesis of MOFs for selective CO2 conversion, particularly with regards to the use of cooperative metal centres.
